Graduate Electronics Engineer (Permanent) - Added 7 December 2017

Blighter Surveillance Systems is looking for a Graduate Electronics Engineer to play a key role in the design, development and test of new radar products from board level circuit design to validation and test. The role involves the design of analogue and digital hardware blocks and test fixtures including test automation scripts. Complete products are validated in the laboratory to ensure successful field operation. The role also involves the opportunity to work on equipment using frequencies up to Ku band which would suit someone with an interest in RF design.

The engineering team at Blighter is small and flexible. We are looking for someone capable of working on their own initiative but who can also collaborate and communicate effectively with other engineers and end users. Training and mentoring by senior engineers will be provided to help the individual develop their skills.

You will have:

  • A good degree in electronics or physics.
  • Electronics analogue and digital design skills at board level.
  • Some experience or interest in RF circuit and system design.
  • Some experience of test automation.
  • Experience of laboratory test equipment and measurement techniques.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • A logical approach to problem solving.

In addition, the following would be advantageous:

  • Proficiency in a programming language such as Python.
  • Radar system knowledge.

Graduates with industrial experience via a placement or recent graduates with relevant academic course or research experience are welcomed. There may be occasional opportunities for overseas travel in support of our products.

Manufacturing Technician (Permanent) - Updated 1 December 2017

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and flexible Manufacturing Technician to join the Production team of this small but expanding company. The successful candidate will take responsibility for a range of production support activities for our complex products, with scope to move to a Manufacturing Engineer role.

This is a challenging role offering opportunity to work on a wide range of manufacturing support activities, and would suit someone looking to broaden their experience.

Duties / responsibilities:

Typically to include, though not limited to the following:

  • Provide support for day to day manufacturing operations.
  • Produce and maintain manufacturing documentation.
  • Using our PLM software to maintain product build standard, and resolve issues.
  • Provide ad-hoc support to engineering and sales staff with materials/manufacturing.
  • Supply chain management and development (quality/suppliers etc.).
  • Assist with improvements to our in-house production facilities as needed.
  • Manage new process/products into suppliers when needed.

Although the role is based at our Great Chesterford office, some travel may be required in the UK and, occasionally, overseas.

Essential skills and knowledge:

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • The ability to multi-task, and work well under time pressure.
  • Flexible in approach, and ability to deal with changing requirements.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to generate technical reports.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Awareness of common manufacturing processes, particularly printed circuit board and electro-mechanical sub-assembly.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Advantageous skills and knowledge:

  • Familiarity with technical documentation (drawings, specifications).
  • Awareness of a range of other manufacturing processes such as injection-moulding, sand and die-casting, sheet metal fabrication, precision machining.
  • Knowledge of workmanship and process standards IPC etc. within a Quality Management System.
  • A qualification in an engineering related discipline.
